Feb 3-4 food diary-- no muffie

Feb. 3
Breakfast: leftover onion soup, leftover dijon beef stew with egg noodles.

Lunch (after work, 2:30): leftover spice cake, 1/2 grapefruit with sugar, 1/2 avocado, little packet of mustard peas.

Dinner: spiced red lentils with white rice; oven-fried potato rounds with ketchup; salad of romaine, carrot, chives and avocado with lime-and-olive oil dressing.  The lentils, which are sometimes wonderful, were nothing to write home about on this occasion.  I always wing it, sometimes more successfully than others.  I also have to admit that red lentils, while delightful in that they cook really, really fast, are not my favorite.

Snacks: 4 cups of coffee, at least 2 of which were regular (there was some doubt about the others due to a grinding mix-up at the restaurant... shh, don't tell the customers, who may have been undercaffeinated today).  With half and half.  Glass of crappy sweet Madeira in the evening (just to be clear about this, I enjoy my cheap sherries and other things I have bought for cooking, then "had" to finish.  However, drinking regularly-- no matter how moderately-- makes me fat, in the same way my one-can-of-Pepsi per day habit made me fat while it lasted.  Apparently I am meant to stick to coffee and water, alas).

Feb. 4
Breakfast: leftover Portuguese onion soup, leftover red lentils and white rice.

Lunch: 3 mugwort injulmi, now extremely stale, but I hate to waste them; banana; little packet of mustard peas; slice of Pepperidge Farm whole wheat toast with butter.

Shopping (New Grand Mart): frozen lima beans, 2 packages top round steak, 1 red bell pepper, 2 limes, 4 avocados, potato starch, sweet rice flour, unbleached flour, oats, cocoa powder, half and half, powdered sugar, whole coriander seeds, coffee, can of black beans, quart of banana yogurt, mixed fruit jam, can of coconut milk, 6 assorted La Yogurt individual yogurts, 2 bunches beets with greens, bacon, crystallized ginger, cashews, firm tofu, ginger root, salted butter, unsalted butter, flour tortillas, butter lettuce, cilantro, green beans, 5 lb. bag russet potatoes, 1 turnip, strawberries, curry leaves, serrano peppers, 1 jalapeno pepper, 2 red onions, 2 spanish onions.  $107.  (Co-op): 2 cans cat food, bottle of local cabernet sauvignon (after a taste-test in the store). $19.

Dinner: oatmeal with dried cranberries, fresh blueberries, pecans, brown sugar and milk; bacon.

Close-ups of bacon look kind of dirty for some reason.
Snacks: one last bite of spice cake, one last bite of beef stew, as I was packing them into other people's lunches in the morning.  4 cups of coffee, 3 regular, 1 decaf, with half and half.  The usual pattern of 2/2 is broken because I became confused at Panera mid-morning and poured myself a big cup of dark roast before remembering that it was decaf time.  Honest mistake.  Not complaining.  Also a fruit cup at Panera (pale melon, pale pineapple, a few grapes) because it was the only thing I could find to buy that wasn't at least 300 calories, and I felt obligated to buy something besides coffee if I was going to take up a table with my computer for over an hour.  Still regretting not getting a "muffie."  Glass of Madeira in the evening.  2 strips of bacon at 2:30 am.
