PictureI saw these and texted my daughter because I thought she'd think the name was funny. She replied, "BUY THEM."
Jan 18
Breakfast: Leftover eggplant pickle, leftover cornbread stuffing and spinach from last night, 6 saltine crackers (from the little packets they gave me with the matzoh ball soup).  A handful of dark-chocolate covered almonds.  For protein.

"Lunch" (at 4:45, after work): mixture of dark-chocolate covered raisins and almonds, 1 hard-boiled egg.

Shopping (Co-op): Nature's Path Heritage Flakes, honey whole wheat bakery bread, raw organic bulk sunflower seeds, half and half, bulk yogurt-covered raisins, Pirate Booty, brown cage-free eggs, black bean sweet potato wrap (from a local restaurant), salmon avocado hand rolls, salmon avocado sushi roll, vegetarian sushi roll, $48.

Dinner: vegetarian sushi roll, one of the two salmon avocado hand rolls that came in the package (the rest of the sushi went to my daughter, while my husband had the black bean sweet potato wrap and some Pirate Booty).

Snacks: 4 cups of coffee, 2 regular, 2 decaf, with half and half, plus most of one more cup of regular while rolling silverware at work.  Glass of sherry after dinner.

January 19 has been lost to history.  I swear I wrote at least some of this down, but it is now missing, and once I have already uploaded something from my memory, it is gone.  It wasn't a very exciting day in any case.

Jan 20
Breakfast: Leftover eggplant pickle; black seedy grapes; two slices of toast and butter, one with apple butter and one with apricot jam; hard-boiled egg.

Lunch (after work): Honestly, I am not sure.  What turned out to be the physical and emotional disturbance of an impending migraine (more on this later) both destroyed my motivation to record things in a timely manner, and apparently impaired my memory as well.  It's been a hard week.

Shopping (New Grand Mart): I bought a lot because we have a blizzard coming, and heavy snow shuts down the Washington DC area for days, sometimes (I hear) weeks.  Thin-sliced ribeye, cut-up chicken legs, "simulated lobster balls," shrimp balls, toothpaste, vegetable oil, canola oil, gallon of whole milk, buttermilk, sugar, matcha green tea powder, toilet paper, a bag of tiny packets of mustard peas, bag of roasted chestnuts for snacking, chocolate chips, spicy peanuts for snacking, beef balls (the Asian kind, similar to the shrimp and lobster balls), walnuts, russet potatoes, La Yogurt individual yogurts (assorted flavors), basket coffee filters, quart of Dannon vanilla yogurt, 3 packets of fresh udon noodles, "irregular" bacon (cheap!), Guatemalan queso fresco, tofu, mild cheddar cheese, butter, bulb onions, yu choy, sugar snap peas, scallions, fresh fava beans, 2 dozen cage-free brown eggs, cilantro, four tiny forelle pears, green beans, romaine hearts, 2 mangos, 1 tomato, 1 dragon fruit (cost $7!), 1 gigantic papaya, regular bananas, little manzano bananas. $132.

Dinner: For some reason, I went crazy with the meat products in creating a very meaty udon soup.  The broth was made simply, with beef Better-than-Bouillon, mirin, sugar, salt, soy sauce, and a little bit of rice vinegar.  All of the following were cooked separately, then added to the broth at the end: the udon noodles; steamed yu choy, bulb onions, and sugar snap peas; the thin-sliced ribeye; the cut-up chicken legs; the shrimp balls; the beef balls.  I don't know what came over me.

Meats 'n' things.

Stuff waiting to go in the soup.
Each of our bowls was slightly different.  My husband's had no shrimp balls.  My daughter's had no onions.  Mine had everything, of course, because I chose the ingredients.  The soup was pretty good, but I still haven't got the broth quite right.  Also, I would not buy the beef balls again, and the ribeye needed a more serious pre-marinating than I gave it.

Snacks: 4 cups of coffee, 2 regular, 2 decaf, with half and half.  I didn't have a drink at night because I was suddenly overcome by despair after dinner and went to bed early.
